Extend the Growing Season with a Fall Veggie Garden Kit

Healthy transplants from Hilltop Hanover Farm

For those who want help extending the growing season and raising fall crops, Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center has created a fall vegetable garden kit. It includes a preplanned 8’ x 10’ garden with regional hardy plants and seeds, a diagram and instructions for planting. A one-hour farmers’ lecture is also included. Hilltop’s web site features “follow-along” garden posts with photos, blog comments and recipes related to garden harvests.

Fruit, vegetable and herb plants featured in the kit include collards, kale, chard, broccoli, cabbage, parsley, scallions and beets. Seeds include a lettuce mix, mustard/spicy mix, spinach, radishes and broccoli rabe. All seeds and plants were chosen for flavor, hardiness and pest resistance, and they are either heirloom and/or organic. The plants in the garden kit were grown in Hilltop’s greenhouse utilizing organic methods and practices.

The package costs $50 and is available for pick-up on Saturday, August 7 with farmer lectures at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. RSVP is mandatory for lectures. Supplies are limited, so customers are encouraged to reserve their kits early.
