Training Program for Volunteer Environmental Educators at Sheldrake Center Begins October 18

The Sheldrake Environmental Center in Larchmont presents a Volunteer Environmental Educator Training Program this fall for those who want to help kids learn more about the natural world. The 12-session program begins on Thursday, October 18, 2012.

“Studies show that kids are physically and mentally healthier, calmer and more creative if they spend time outdoors in nature,” says Sheldrake Program Director Mary Davis. “We invite area adults to be a part of kids’ excitement and discovery as they walk our trails. Participants can learn how to lead field trips and hear kids say, ‘This is the most awesome field trip ever.’”

Davis says that the Volunteer Environmental Educator Training Program covers fascinating facts about plants and animals that are right in most people’s backyards. “These are things that they might never have noticed before, and our trainees will learn fun ways to share their new knowledge with elementary school children,” she adds. “They’ll also meet others who care about our planet, enjoy learning and want to make a huge contribution to our community.”

Class size is limited so pre-registration is recommended by calling Mary Davis at 914.834.1443 or emailing progdirector@sheldrakecenter.org.

The Sheldrake Environmental Center is located at 685 Weaver St. in Larchmont. For more information visit SheldrakeCenter.org.
