Veterinarian Brings Chinese Herbal Medicine to Bedford Hills Practice

Dr. Leilani Alvarez and friend

Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center (KBVC) of Bedford Hills, NY is pleased to announce that one of its lead veterinarians, Dr. Leilani Alvarez, will become a Certified Veterinary Chinese Herbalist in May. Dr. Alvarez, an experienced veterinary acupuncturist and canine rehabilitation therapist, has spent the past two years training at the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies. Her accomplishment is rare in the field, as most veterinarians practicing herbal medicine are not certified.

“I’m thrilled to be earning this certification,” Dr. Alvarez reports. “It’s an example of how we’re always seeking to offer patients a diverse range of therapies and treatments at KBVC.” Dr. Alvarez also practices western veterinary medicine.

Other new services at KBVC include DNA testing for Degenerative Myelopathy, a debilitating disease in dogs that causes severe progressive neurologic disorders such as ataxia, paresis and paralysis. KBVC has also acquired a low-level therapeutic laser for treating osteoarthritis, soft-tissue injuries, and Intervertebral Disk Disease. Additionally, KBVC technician Lori Lombardi has became a Reiki Level 2 Healer and now offers this service to patients at no additional cost.
