Training Program for Volunteer Environmental Educators at Sheldrake Center Begins October 18

The Sheldrake Environmental Center in Larchmont presents a Volunteer Environmental Educator Training Program this fall for those who want to help kids learn more about the natural world. The 12-session program begins on Thursday, October 18, 2012.

“Studies show that kids are physically and mentally healthier, calmer and more creative if they spend time outdoors in nature,” says Sheldrake Program Director Mary Davis. “We invite area adults to be a part of kids’ excitement and discovery as they walk our trails. Participants can learn how to lead field trips and hear kids say, ‘This is the most awesome field trip ever.’”

Davis says that the Volunteer Environmental Educator Training Program covers fascinating facts about plants and animals that are right in most people’s backyards. “These are things that they might never have noticed before, and our trainees will learn fun ways to share their new knowledge with elementary school children,” she adds. “They’ll also meet others who care about our planet, enjoy learning and want to make a huge contribution to our community.”

Class size is limited so pre-registration is recommended by calling Mary Davis at 914.834.1443 or emailing progdirector@sheldrakecenter.org.

The Sheldrake Environmental Center is located at 685 Weaver St. in Larchmont. For more information visit SheldrakeCenter.org.

Open House for New Anti-Aging Program In Larchmont on Oct 11, 2012

WellSpring Holistic & Green Health Center in Larchmont presents an open house on Thursday, October 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event, which will spotlight the center’s new anti-aging program, includes light refreshments.

“When you take care of yourself, age is just a number, and what we prevent in midlife is preventable in late life,” says WellSpring founder Brigitte Shotiminrin, a nutritionist and health care professional. “Technically we begin to age from the day we’re born, but most people don’t give it much thought until they begin to notice the signs of aging such as wrinkles, weight gain, weak bones, low libido, arthritic conditions and sluggishness.”

Shotiminrin says that she and her fellow practitioners at WellSpring offer a holistic, personalized anti-aging regimen that features internal cleansing, therapeutic and beautifying treatments, whole food nutrition and a good maintenance program for proper balance and internal organ health. The center is offering free consultations and a 10 percent discount throughout the month of October.

WellSpring Holistic & Green Health Center is located at 1415 Boston Post Rd., Suite 5, in Larchmont. To make an appointment, call 914.341.1246 or visit WellSpringHHC.com.

Jo Jayson Offers a Magically Creative Arts and Crafts Class for Kids

Jo Jayson

Spiritual artist, muralist and teacher Jo Jayson is offering a special kind of arts and crafts class for kids this fall. Fairy houses, dream catchers, prayer boxes and crystal wands are some of the enchanting items to be created in the eight-week Creative Mindfulness Crafts course that begins October 11, 2012 at Groove in Larchmont, NY.

Jayson says that the class will teach children how to find their own sense of power, magic, comfort and support by decorating objects that are inherently sacred. “By exploring different ideas of the mystical and magical, we’ll tap into the powerful, unstructured imagination of children, where all things are possible and belief is vital to goals and manifestations,” she says. The classes take place on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

To register children for Creative Mindfulness Crafts with Jo, call 914.834.3383 or visit FindGroove.com. Jayson also offers Creative Mindfulness Manifestation and Intention workshops for adults. Visit JoJayson.com for more details. Groove is located at 108 Chatsworth Ave. in Larchmont.

Purification Retreats Start at Wainwright House in Rye, NY

The Wainwright HouseTwo Purification Weekend Retreats, which include meditation, detoxification and other natural purification techniques, will be held in early December at the Wainwright House in Rye, NY.

One of the biggest tragedies of human civilization is the modern precedence of chemical therapy over nutrition, says Brigitte Shotiminrin, founder and owner of WellSpring Holistic Health Center, which is hosting the retreats. “In today’s world there’s a substitution of the artificial for the natural,” she says. “This is a key cause in malnutrition, premature aging and toxin accumulation—which is a major contributor to degenerative diseases.” Purification and detoxification are necessary for good health and proper absorption of nutrients, she adds.

The retreats, scheduled for December 3-5 and 10-12, offer practical and nutritional assistance with a program designed to educate participants about preventive and healing healthcare, as well as pre- and post-surgical procedures. The retreat schedule includes meditation for mindful relaxation, iridology, detoxification treatments, yoga, and purification meals. Lodging is provided. Shotiminrin is a nutritionist and healthcare professional. “My many patients know me as the go-to purification priestess,” she says. “I stand behind my knowledgeable and responsible attention, and it’s my pride and happiness to help others find the true source of health.”

The Wainwright House is located at 260 Stuyvesant Ave. in Rye. WellSpring Holistic Health Center is located at 1415 Boston Post Rd., Larchmont, NY. For pricing and other retreat information, call the Center at 914.341.1246.
