Rivertowns Roll Promotes Sustainable Transportation in Westchester

Rivertowns Roll with SWEAC

On Saturday, October 6, 2012, the Southern Westchester Energy Action Consortium (SWEAC) presents Rivertowns Roll, a group bike ride on the Old Croton Aqueduct that begins at 9 a.m. The event aims to show how residents can use existing resources to get around sustainably and aligns with SWEAC’s Complete Streets in a Box Toolkit program.

“Complete Streets planning seeks to make infrastructure work for everyone—pedestrians, cyclists and mass-transit users—not just car drivers,” says SWEAC executive director Nina Orville. “It’s about smart design that fosters integrated transportation and enhances communities from an environmental and social perspective.”

Orville says that SWEAC wants people to view the Old Croton Aqueduct as essential for transportation, not just recreation. The trail connects key points in Westchester and can be used by both pedestrians and cyclists. To register for the Rivertowns Roll, visit RivertownsRoll2.eventbrite.com. Participants and visitors to the sign-in table will be entered into a drawing for a free membership to BetterWorldClub.com, which provides environmentally friendly bike and auto roadside assistance.
